
Recently on Dt. 16th Apr 2008, a vocal recital by Ms Rupan Sarkar was held at Sant Nischal Singh College of Education, Yamuna Nagar ( Haryana). Ms. Rupan Sarkar is a deciple of renowned vocalist Ms. Girija Devi, a renowned Classical singer of Banaras Gharana. MS Girija Devi is adept at different genres of Hindustani vocal music including Khyal, Thumri, Dadra, Chaiti and Kajari, but she excels in the Poorab ang Thumri.
The event was organized in the morning session and began with subtle notes Indian Classical music. Ms. Rupan Sarkar presented thumri, khyal , dadra and various other forms of Hindustani vocal music. The program lasted about for 2 hrs and it was a marvelous performance. Later she interacted with the audience mainly consisting of college students and gave answers to their queries. Students took keen interest to learn more about the rich heritage of Indian Classical Music.
